1  அன்னையும் பிதாவும் முன்னறி தெய்வம்

விளக்கம் 
தாய், தந்தையர் கண்கண்ட தெய்வம்

Transliteration 
Annaiyum pithavum munnari deivam

English Translation
Mother and Father are the first known Gods

2  ஆலயம் தொழுவது சாலவும் நன்று

விளக்கம் 
கோவிலுக்குச் சென்று இறைவனைத் தொழுவது மிகவும் நல்லது

Transliteration 
Aalayam thozhuvadhu saalavum nandru

English Translation
It is good to visit the temple for worship.

3  இல்லறம் அல்லது நல்லறம் அன்று

விளக்கம் 
இல்லறவாழ்வே மிகவும் நன்மை பயக்கக் கூடியது

Transliteration 
Il aram alladhu nal aram nandru

English Translation
Domestic life is virtuous, Anything else is not.

4  ஈயார் தேட்டை தீயார் கொள்வர்

விளக்கம் 
பிறருக்கு உதவி செய்யாதோர் பொருளைத் தீயவர் பறித்துக் கொள்வர்

Transliteration 
Eeyar thettai theeyaar kolvar

English Translation
The miser’s wealth will be taken by the wicked.

5  உண்டி சுருங்குதல் பெண்டிர்க்கு அழகு

விளக்கம் 
குறைத்து உண்ணுதல் பெண்களுக்கு அழகு தரும்

Transliteration 
Undi surunguthal pendirkku azhaku

English Translation
The smaller the meals, the prettier the woman.

6  ஊருடன் பகைக்கின் வேருடன் கெடும்

விளக்கம் 
ஊராரோடு பகைத்துக் கொண்டால் குடும்பம் அழிந்து விடும்

Transliteration 
Oorudan pagaikkin verudan azhaku

English Translation
Animosity towards the community uproots the whole family.

7  எண்ணும் எழுத்தும் கண் எனத் தகும்

விளக்கம் 
அறிவியலுக்கு ஆதாரமான எண்ணும், இலக்கிய அறிவுக்கு ஆதாரமான எழுத்தும் நமக்குக் கண் போன்றவை

Transliteration 
Yennum yezhuththum kan yenath thakum

English Translation
Numbers and letterss are as worthy as the two eyes.

8  ஏவா மக்கள் மூவா மருந்து

விளக்கம் 
செய் என்று சொல்லும் முன்பே குறிப்பறிந்து செயலாற்றும் பிள்ளைகள் அம்ருதம் போன்றவர்கள்

Transliteration 
Yaevaa makkal moovaa marundhu

English Translation
Anticipation by children is panacea for parent’s ills

9  ஐயம் புகினும் செய்வன செய்

விளக்கம் 
பிச்சை எடுத்தாவது செய்ய வேண்டிய நல்ல கார்யங்களை செய்

Transliteration 
Aiyam pukinum seivana sei

English Translation
Do what is right, even if reduced to begging.

10  ஒருவனைப் பற்றி ஒரகத்து இரு

விளக்கம் 
ஒருவனை மணந்து புகுந்த வீட்டிலே வசிக்க வேண்டும்

Transliteration 
Oruvanaip patri oarakaththu iru

English Translation
Marry one and be faithful to him

11  ஓதலின் நன்றே வேதியர்க்கு ஒழுக்கம்

விளக்கம் 
ஒழுக்கமானது வேதம் ஓதுவதை விட மிக நல்லது

Transliteration 
Oadhalin nandre vethiyarkku ozhukkam

English Translation
For priests morality is more important than chanting.

12  ஒளவியம் பேசுதல் ஆக்கத்திற்கு அழிவு

விளக்கம் 
பொறாமைப் பேச்சு வளர்ச்சியை அழிக்கும்

Transliteration 
Auviyam pesudhal aakkaththirku azhivu

English Translation
Jealous words destroy one’s prosperity.

13  அஃகமும் காசும் சிக்கெனத் தேடு

விளக்கம் 
சிக்கனமாயிருந்து தான்யத்தையும், செல்வத்தையும் தேட வேண்டும்.

Transliteration 
Ahkamum kasum sikkenath thirambamai

English Translation
Land and wealth should be accumulated quickly.
