2017 0625 26 ThirukkuraL: 5 Virtues Pillaring Perfection of Character
Visualize an edifice [building] supported by five grand pillars! Likewise,
"Perfection of Character" [சான்றாண்மை saandraanmai],
is pillared by five great virtues, namely,
1] universal love [அன்பு anbu],
2] modesty [நாண் naaN],
3] beneficence [ஒப்புரவு oppuravu],
4] compassion [கண்ணோட்டம் kannottam], and
5] truthfulness [வாய்மை vaimai]!
Says Saint Poet Thruvalluvar, in ThirukkuraL 983:
அன்பு நாண் ஒப்புரவு கண்ணோட்டம் வாய்மையொடு
ஐந்து சால்பு ஊன்றிய தூண். [T 983]
